The management of the Ghana Education Service has officially breaks silence on whether lesson notes should be prepared manually or electronically, especially amid the ‘One-Teacher-One Laptop’ program.

GES in a press release dated 21st February 2022 stated that Lesson Notes must be prepared and approved. This is being enforced strictly.

According to GES, where both teacher and the supervisor agree that lesson notes should be prepared and submitted electronically, it should be allowed.

“At a discussion with the Teacher Unions, the consensus was that for now, the system should be made as flexible as possible. That is, it should be based on an agreement between the teacher and his/her supervisor. Thus, where both teacher and the supervisor agree that it should be prepared and submitted electronically, it should be allowed” GES Further explained.

On the other hand, where the reason for stopping the salary of any staff is not one of those indicated on the payroll system. (such as for disciplinary issues). the Validator should only do that on the express authorization of the Cost Centre Manager. The Cost Centre Manager should indicate such instances in a special report through the system.

Thus, where both teacher and the supervisor agree that it should be prepared and submitted electronically, it should be allowed. Where it cannot be transmitted electronically, a print-out of the typed lesson notes should be submitted for vetting and approval.

Where for any valid reason, it cannot be prepared electronically, it should be done manually. based on an agreement between the parties.
The management wishes to emphasize that the feasibility of phasing out the manual preparation of lesson notes will be discussed at the appropriate time when every teacher has received his/her laptop and trained.

This should not cause any apprehension among any section of staff of the Service.
