Central High School Music and Band Festival 2023

Background of MUZIFEST

I had a dream. it was a tiny seed that was going through my mind.

How can we express the talent that we have?

Already, I have realized that almost every Senior High School in the Central Region has either a Regimental Band, Live Band or Brass Band.

How can we bring these talents together under one big umbrella, and let them have confidence in themselves?

I think it was a nice dream that I had so how could we turn that idea into reality?

This dream brings forth the birth of the Central High School Music and Band Festival (Muzifest).

Official letters were sent to the Heads of the various High Schools in the Central Region

MAMDEV sees it as an obligation, we must do something for the very young ones. I can say categorically that there is hope and there is a future for you, as far as MANDEV is concerned because the development of education is a shared responsibility between the government and the private sector.

response from the Chairperson for the occasion

Keynote Address by the Director of Education – Mr. Emmanuel Essuman

Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished educators, administrators, and esteemed guests, today, I stand before you with a vision that holds the power to transform our Senior High Schools in the Central Region into thriving hubs of artistic excellence and camaraderie.

As the renowned music educator Bennett Reimer once said, “The arts have the capacity to engage and enrich the lives of all.”

It is with this understanding that I propose the establishment of a sustainable mass band program within our schools—a program that encompasses not just music, but a holistic approach to learning and personal development.

The arts, in all their forms, play an essential role in high school education. They provide students with an avenue for self-expression, creativity, and cultural exploration.

The experience of participating in the arts nurtures qualities such as discipline, collaboration, and resilience—qualities that are indispensable for success in any field.

Moreover, the arts have the unique ability to transcend barriers and connect people from diverse backgrounds. Just as Bob McGrath, the esteemed educator and performer, once emphasized, music is a unifying drive which transcends diversity.

By bringing students together through music and performance, we instil values of inclusivity and togetherness that will serve them well throughout their lives.

Imagine a Central Region where every Senior High School boasts its own vibrant band, where students of all talents and interests come together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

A sustainable mass band program would not only enrich the student experience but also provide a platform for skill-building and personal growth. As John Philip Sousa, remarked, “Skill is better than artistry in a mass band.”

This multifaceted approach to skill development aligns seamlessly with the demands of the contemporary world, equipping our students with the versatility and adaptability they need to thrive.

Furthermore, a prestigious mass band program will elevate the reputation of our schools both within the region and beyond. It will become a symbol of excellence, project music education, attracting attention and recognition from parents, communities, and even potential students.

This sense of pride and achievement will motivate our students to push their boundaries and strive for greatness in all areas of their academic journey.

In conclusion, ladies and gentlemen, the establishment of a sustainable mass band program in our Senior High Schools holds immense promise. It melds the intrinsic value of the arts with the aspirations of our education system—to nurture well-rounded, confident, and skilled individuals. Let us work together to create a legacy of musical excellence, inclusivity, and achievement that will shape the future of education in the Central Region.

Thank you.
